India’s coronavirus cases jump to 19,984, Death toll at 640

Coronavirus cases in India has risen to 19,984 with 640 fatalities. There are 15,474 active cases while 3,869 have been cured/discharged, the Health Ministry on Wednesday.

Maharashtra has highest COVID-19 cases – 5,218, followed by Gujarat – 2,178, Delhi – 2,156, Rajasthan – 1,659 and Tamil Nadu – 1,596.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a meeting with ministers today on COVID19 response in the country.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) yesterday asked states to not to use the new Rapid Testing Kits for coronavirus for two days.

The Union Government has directed Government of West Bengal not to obstruct working of Central Teams reg. review and on-spot assessment of implementation of Lockdown measures to fight COVID19 in the State.

As per the official statement, it had been brought to the notice of MHA that both the Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs), at Kolkata and Jalpaiguri respectively, have not been provided with the requisite co-operation by the State and local authorities. It was informed that they have been specifically restrained from making any visits, interacting with health professionals, and assessing the ground level situation.

The novel coronavirus has infected over 2.5 million people while over 1,70,000 people have lost their lives.
