Admiral Sunil Lanba, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Indian Navy, has headed for a 3-day visit to Russia from today to 29 November 2018. CNS Lanba’s visit aims to boost bilateral defense ties with Russia, and also to explore new avenues for defense cooperation between both the nations, Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
The CNS will reach St Petersburg today and is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with his counterpart Admiral Vladimir Korolev, Commander-in-Chief of Russian Federation Navy.
The Ministry of Defense said that the CNS will also hold discussions with General VV Gerasimov, and Dmitriy Shugaev, Director, Federal Service for Military Technical Cooperation of the Russian Federation.
Today CNS Lanba will also lay a wreath at the Piskarev Memorial Cemetery, which is dedicated to the victims of the ‘Siege of Leningrad.’ Thereafter, Lanba will make a visit to the Nakhimov Naval School and Admiralty Shipyard.
The Indian Navy cooperates with the Russian Federation Navy on numerous fronts. Both have been conducting the bilateral Maritime Exercise ‘INDRA NAVY’ and as well as INDRA Tri-Services Exercise since 2017.
The next edition of Exercise INDRA-Navy is scheduled to be held in Visakhapatnam in December 2018.
