India win Brisbane Test against Australia; PM Modi says ‘we are overjoyed’

India on Tuesday won the last Test match against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane as it pulled off one of the most memorable victories in the history of Test cricket.

Rishabh Pant’s brilliant 89 and Shubman Gill’s 91, guided India to their victory target of 328.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian cricket team on the win. Modi said, “We are all overjoyed at the success of the Indian Cricket Team in Australia. Their remarkable energy and passion was visible throughout. So was their stellar intent, remarkable grit and determination. Congratulations to the team! Best wishes for your future endeavours.”

ICC tweeted, “India displace Australia to become the new No.2 in the @MRFWorldwide ICC Test Team Rankings.”

BCCI tweeted, “Fortress Gabba captured as #TeamIndia beat Australia and win the Border-Gavaskar Series 2-1.”

Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli said, “WHAT A WIN!!! Yessssss. To everyone who doubted us after Adelaide, stand up and take notice. Exemplary performance but the grit and determination was the standout for us the whole way. Well done to all the boys and the management. Enjoy this historic feat lads. Cheers.”
