India records over 60,000 cases in 24 hours, COVID-19 tally over 23 lakh

India on Wednesday recorded a single-day spike of 60,963 cases and 834 deaths over the past 24 hours. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 23,29,639, according to Health Ministry data.

Of the total cases, 16,39,600 have been cured/discharged/migrated. There are 6,43,948 active cases of COVID-19 in India.

The recovery rate among the coronavirus patients stands at 69.80%.

A total of 46,091 coronavirus patients have lost their lives.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Wednesday said a total of 2,60,15,297 samples have been tested up to August 11 of which 7,33,449 samples were tested yesterday.

On Tuesday, PM Modi interacted with Chief Ministers and representatives of ten states including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Punjab, Bihar, Gujarat, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh via video conferencing to discuss the current situation and plan ahead for tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Prime Minister said that everyone has shown a great degree of cooperation and the teamwork displayed by Team India has been remarkable. He talked about the challenges and pressure faced by hospitals and health care workers.
