India welcomed back senior stars Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah, all of whom returned to the ODI setup after missing recent matches. The game is also a landmark occasion for Virat Kohli, who is playing the 300th ODI innings of his international career.
India struck back after England’s strong opening stand. Openers Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell added 61 runs before the visitors triggered a middle-order collapse. Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Shivam Dube, and Axar Patel shared the wickets as England slipped from 61/0 to 80/5.
A crucial partnership between Joe Root and Liam Dawson revived England’s innings. Root remained unbeaten on 76, while Dawson scored 68, helping England recover and post 257 all out, setting India a target of 258 runs. Axar Patel finished as India’s most successful bowler with four wickets.
India began the chase positively before England removed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the early overs. At the time of publication, the match remained evenly poised, with Shubman Gill anchoring India’s innings as the visitors looked to chase down the target and take a 1-0 lead in the series.
