New MoU will facilitate joint supervision of postgraduate students, research visits and access to academic and research facilities across the two institutions

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) and the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand collaborative research, faculty engagement and student exchange between the two institutions.
The agreement establishes a framework for joint research projects, co-supervision of postgraduate research students and academic exchanges involving students, research scholars and faculty members. It will bring together IIT Delhi’s academic and research capabilities with the extensive network of research institutes associated with AcSIR, including those under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
A key feature of the MoU is the provision for joint supervision of PhD, M.Tech. and MS(R) students. Under the collaborative framework, students will have at least one supervisor from IIT Delhi and another from an AcSIR-associated research institute, enabling them to work with researchers and access expertise across institutional boundaries.
The partnership will also facilitate academic and research visits, allowing postgraduate students, research scholars and faculty members to spend time at the partner institution. Students from IIT Delhi and AcSIR will be able to undertake coursework and research at either institution without requiring separate admission or paying tuition fees at the host institution.
The agreement also provides opportunities for faculty members from IIT Delhi and AcSIR-associated research institutes to collaborate in areas of mutual interest and pursue joint research projects.
IIT Delhi Director Prof. Rangan Banerjee said the collaboration would go beyond conventional student and faculty exchange by creating a platform for sustained interaction among researchers.
“By bringing together the strengths and facilities of IIT Delhi and the CSIR research laboratories, we can enable students and faculty to share ideas, pursue challenging research problems, and work toward solutions to important societal challenges,” he said.
AcSIR Director Prof. Manoj K. Dhar said the MoU would make the research infrastructure and expertise of IIT and AcSIR faculties accessible to a wider pool of students and researchers.
He added that students would have opportunities to work on research problems with strong industrial relevance, describing the agreement as a model for deeper academic and research linkages between AcSIR and IITs.
The MoU was signed at a ceremony attended by senior officials from both institutions, including their directors, deans, associate deans and heads of departments. The institutions also presented an overview of their academic and research activities.
The collaboration is intended to strengthen links between academic institutions and research laboratories, while creating opportunities for students and faculty to work with different research facilities and expertise.
