A Jaguar aircraft of Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed on Tuesday Morning, in Gujarat’s Kutch region. The tragic crash happened over a village in Kutch, soon after the take-off from the Jamnagar air base, the pilot, Air Commodore Sanjai Chauhan VM sustained fatal injuries. The aircraft reportedly collided with the cattle grazing in a field after the crash, killing them.
The fighter aircraft was on a routine sortie stated by a defence spokesperson. The plane’s debris was strewn far and wide on the outskirts of the village, said locals.
Few months ago in another incident, an IAF helicopter crashed in Assam’s Majuli island, killing two pilots — Wing Commander J James and Wing Commander D Vats.
A court of inquiry has been ordered by the IAF headquarters to investigate the cause of the crash.
The aircraft is ageing since its induction into the Indian Air Force four decades ago in 1979. It is a twin-engine, ground attack aircraft which can penetrate deep behind enemy lines on bombing runs having a maximum speed of 1,350 kmph and 1.3 times the speed of sound.
