In a major development in Unnao rape case, the CBI has confirmed rape charges against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.
In a statement given before the magistrate, the victim has confirmed again that she was raped by Sengar on June 4, 2017.
Along with the BJP MLA, the victim has also named his accomplice Shashi Singh who stood guard outside the room, where she was raped.
Sengar is currently lodged in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur jail. He is also being accused of conspiring to kill the victim’s father, who died in the police custody.
According to reports, CBI has also found the local police at fault.
The Unnao rape case had led to a massive public outrage after the victim tried to set herself ablaze outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence on April 8, claiming police inaction in the case. Following the outrage an FIR was lodged against Sengar. The Uttar Pradesh government later handed over the case to CBI.
“I demand death penalty for BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar for raping me and murdering my father,” the victim said while speaking to the media.
