Hundreds of people are missing, and several feared dead after the hydropower dam in southeast Laos collapsed
According to the officials, the accident in the southeastern state of Attapeu has released five billion cubic metres of water, sufficient to fill more than two million Olympic swimming pools.
As per the reports, lot of people are feared dead in this accident and hundreds of people are missing.
Numerous houses which were located in the southern part of the district also swept away.
The officials have begun the rescue operations.
The hydropower dam project, which is estimated to be worth $1.2 billion is being built by Xe Pian-Xe Namnoy Power Company.
The Construction of the dam began in the year 2013 and was expected to complete in the end of 2018, with plans to start operations in 2019.
According to sources, the companies involved in the project are Thailand’s Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding, South Korea’s Korea Western Power and the state-run Lao Holding State Enterprise.
The project was expected to export 90 percent of its electricity to Thailand.
