In a move aimed at enhancing the visual identity of the region and attracting more tourists, a large hillside installation spelling “BANIHAL” has been inaugurated along the National Highway-44.
The landmark sign, inspired by the iconic Hollywood hillside lettering in the United States, has been set up on a mountain slope overlooking the busy Jammu–Srinagar highway corridor. The installation was inaugurated by Banihal MLA Sajjad Shaheen.
According to officials, the structure is around 100 feet long and nearly 20 feet high, including its base. It has been fabricated using durable steel material and designed to withstand harsh mountain weather conditions. An automatic lighting system has also been installed to ensure visibility during night hours.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Sajjad Shaheen said the idea was inspired by the world-famous Hollywood sign and was developed as part of efforts to improve the aesthetic appeal and tourism potential of the Banihal-Gool area.
“The concept came from the Hollywood landmark, and after detailed planning, designing and execution, the project has taken shape,” Shaheen said.
He added that such initiatives would help give Banihal a distinct identity and improve the experience of travellers passing through the scenic highway route.
The installation has already started drawing attention from commuters and locals, with the bold white letters standing out prominently against the green hillside backdrop along NH-44.
