Pune: The Maharashtra government has appointed senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Ujjwal Nikam as the Special Public Prosecutor in the high-profile Ketan Agarwal murder case, while also approving a fast-track trial to ensure speedy justice. The decision came after Ketan’s father, Vishal Agarwal, met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and sought a swift and effective prosecution in the case.
Chief Minister Fadnavis assured the family that the state would leave no stone unturned to ensure strict punishment for those found guilty. Soon after the meeting, the government approved both the appointment of Nikam and the constitution of a fast-track court for the trial. Ujjwal Nikam, best known for successfully prosecuting the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case, has reportedly conveyed his consent to represent the state in the matter.
The case pertains to the death of Pune-based realtor Ketan Agarwal, who allegedly died after being pushed off a cliff at Lohagad Fort earlier this month. Police have arrested Ketan’s fiancée, Siya Goyal, and her alleged boyfriend, Chetan Chaudhary, in connection with the case. Investigators claim that the murder was premeditated and that the accused had allegedly rehearsed the crime and conducted online searches on ways to kill Ketan.
Investigators have also recreated the crime scene at Lohagad Fort with the accused as part of the probe. The case has attracted nationwide attention due to the alleged involvement of the victim’s fiancée and the chilling details emerging during the investigation.
With a special prosecutor now appointed and a fast-track court approved, the victim’s family has expressed hope that justice will be delivered swiftly. The investigation into the case is still underway, and police are continuing to gather evidence.
