New Delhi: A heavy rush is already being witnessed at Jantar Mantar ahead of the July 20 protest march, with supporters gathering in large numbers for what is being called an “Education Revolution.” Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia has announced that he will join the protest tomorrow, extending his support to education reform activist Sonam Wangchuk.
In a post on X, Sisodia said he would personally participate in the march, describing it as a movement for the future of India’s children rather than support for any individual or organisation. He emphasized that the protest is aimed at freeing the country’s education system from the “education mafia” and urged citizens to join if they care about their children’s future.
The development comes as Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on a prolonged hunger strike over education reforms, remains under medical supervision at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital after being shifted there by authorities. His detention and hospitalisation have sparked widespread reactions and protests across the country.
Meanwhile, Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), confirmed that the July 20 march will go ahead as planned. He appealed to supporters to gather at Jantar Mantar and maintain peace during the protest. Dipke also warned that anyone creating disturbances or raising negative slogans should not be considered part of the movement.
With growing crowds and heightened political attention, authorities have imposed restrictions in parts of central Delhi. The Delhi High Court has also taken up matters related to Wangchuk’s hospitalisation, while supporters continue to demand that he be allowed to continue his protest on his own terms.
According to Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali Angmo, he may end his fast if political leaders meet him and commit to raising the issue of education accountability during Parliament’s Monsoon Session. However, no official confirmation has been made so far.
