Heavy Rain Disrupts Gurugram, Administration Advises WFH for Offices and Online Classes for Schools

Gurugram, August 24: Heavy rainfall brought several parts of Gurugram to a standstill on Monday, causing widespread waterlogging, severe traffic congestion and disruption to daily life. In response to the situation, the district administration has advised offices to allow work from home and schools to conduct online classes on August 25.

Around 70 mm Rainfall Recorded

According to the district administration, Gurugram received around 70 mm of rainfall by 1:30 pm. Several major stretches were affected, including Rajiv Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, Railway Road, Sector 5, Old Delhi Road, Mehrauli Road and Basai Road.

The heavy rain resulted in waterlogging at several locations, with motorists abandoning vehicles on flooded roads. Traffic movement was also severely affected across the city.

WFH Advisory for August 25

The Gurugram administration has advised corporate offices, government and private schools, and other institutions to guide their employees and staff to work from home on Tuesday, August 25.

The advisory has been issued to reduce traffic pressure on the roads and allow civic agencies to carry out repair and maintenance work on roads and drainage infrastructure.

Schools have also been advised to shift classes to the online mode in view of the weather conditions and difficulties faced by students and school transport.

Traffic Hit Across Gurugram

The rain severely disrupted traffic on several important routes. The Delhi-Jaipur Expressway witnessed major congestion, with commuters reporting that journeys which normally take around 15 minutes took more than 50 minutes.

A section of the expressway near Cyber Hub was also submerged, while Sheetla Mata Road was among the areas badly affected by waterlogging.

The administration has urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and cooperate with civic and emergency agencies as the city deals with the impact of the heavy rainfall.
