The Congress on Wednesday announced that its party’s spokesperson Randeep Surjewala will be its candidate for the by-election in Haryana’s Jind Assembly constituency.
The poll will take place later this month.
The decision was made after a round of meetings between the Congress president Rahul Gandhi and the state Congress leadership.
Congress tweeted, “Announcement of @rssurjewala as the Congress candidate for the ensuing bye-election to the Legislative Assembly of Haryana.”
Surjewala, is presently an MLA from Kaithal constituency.
According to the reports, Surjewala is seen by the party as a strong candidate as had earlier won polls from Jind district.
By-election to Haryana’s Jind seat will be held on January 28 and the counting of votes will take place on January 31.
