Ahead of Independence Day 2026, the Haryana Police has launched ‘Operation Trackdown’, a statewide special drive aimed at strengthening law and order and intensifying action against organized crime, fugitives, and habitual offenders.
The operation is focused on apprehending criminals involved in heinous offences such as murder, attempt to murder, robbery, dacoity, extortion, snatching, kidnapping, and illegal arms cases. The initiative is intended to ensure a peaceful, secure, and crime-free environment across the state during the Independence Day celebrations.
As part of the campaign, Haryana Police arrested 903 criminals in just three days, from August 1 to August 3, 2026. Of these, 139 accused were arrested in serious criminal cases, while 767 offenders wanted or involved in other criminal cases were also apprehended during the operation.
The operation reflects the department’s intensified focus on tackling violent and organized crime through coordinated enforcement across the state.
Director General of Police (DGP) Haryana, Ajay Singhal, said that the special statewide campaign has been launched ahead of Independence Day to reinforce the rule of law, instill fear among criminals, and provide citizens with a safe and peaceful environment.
He said that criminals involved in serious offences such as murder, attempt to murder, robbery, dacoity, extortion, kidnapping, snatching, and illegal arms offences will face strict legal action, and no offender will be allowed to evade the law.
The DGP said all district police units have been directed to intensify operations against wanted and habitual offenders, ensure their prompt arrest, and dismantle organized criminal networks. Reiterating Haryana Police’s commitment to public safety, he said the force follows a zero-tolerance policy towards crime and criminals, with the safety and security of citizens remaining its highest priority.
As part of the special drive, Haryana Police also strengthened surveillance on habitual offenders. During the operation, 13 new history sheets were opened against habitual criminals, while 81 existing history sheets were updated to strengthen criminal records and facilitate more effective legal action in the future.
Operation Trackdown is being implemented through coordinated efforts involving all district police units, Crime Branches, the Special Task Force (STF), and other specialized units. Continuous raids and targeted operations are being conducted to apprehend absconding and wanted criminals, monitor history-sheeters, recover illegal weapons, and dismantle organized crime syndicates.
Haryana Police has reiterated that maintaining law and order across the state during the Independence Day celebrations remains its foremost priority. The special campaign will continue with sustained action against suspects, habitual offenders, and wanted criminals to ensure a secure, peaceful, and fear-free environment for the public.
