Hardik Pandya Ruled Out of Afghanistan ODIs Due to Injury

New Delhi: India have suffered a major setback ahead of the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan, with star all-rounder Hardik Pandya ruled out due to a low-grade quadriceps sprain. The injury comes just when Pandya was nearing a return to international ODI cricket after spending time at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

According to reports, Pandya had completed several days of intensive training and match-simulation exercises and was close to receiving full fitness clearance. However, he developed soreness and stiffness in his quadriceps during the final phase of his rehabilitation, prompting the medical staff to advise caution.

The three-match ODI series against Afghanistan begins on June 13, but the injury has forced the Indian team management to leave Pandya out of the squad. He is expected to remain at the Centre of Excellence for further recovery and monitoring. Medical experts have described the injury as minor, but sufficient to prevent him from taking part in competitive cricket immediately.

Pandya’s absence leaves India without one of its most experienced pace-bowling all-rounders. The 32-year-old has been a crucial figure in India’s white-ball setup, contributing with both bat and ball in pressure situations. Team management is now expected to assess replacement options, with players such as Shivam Dube and Nitish Kumar Reddy emerging as potential alternatives.

The latest setback also raises concerns about Pandya’s availability for future ODI assignments, including India’s tour of England next month. For now, the focus remains on ensuring a complete recovery before he returns to competitive action.
