Harbhajan Singh, VVS Laxman back Gautam Gambhir on Atishi pamphlet row

Former Indian cricket teammate Harbhajan Singh came out in support of Gautam Gambhir who was accused by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of distributing pamphlets containing obscene and derogatory remarks about AAP’s candidate Atishi.

“I am shocked to note yesterday’s events involving @GautamGambhir. I know him well and he can never talk ill for any woman. Whether he wins or loses is another matter but the man is above all this,” Harbhajan tweeted.

Another former cricketer VVS Laxman vouched for Gambhir’s character as he tweeted: “Shocked to hear about yesterday’s developments. Having known @GautamGambhir for nearly 2 decades, I can vouch for his integrity, character and the respect he has for women.”

AAP’s East Delhi candidate Atishi in a press conference on Thursday had said that Gambhir had distributed a pamphlet containing obscene and derogatory remarks against her in the constituency.

Gautam Gambhir rubbished the allegations and said would quit politics if the charge is proven.  He has also sent a defamation notice to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and AAP’s candidate Atishi.

In the notice, Gambhir has demanded an apology from the AAP leaders and asked them to withdraw their allegations against him.
