Four army men, including an Army major and three soldiers, and two suspected militants were killed on August 7 in an encounter along the Line of Control (LOC) in Gurez, north Kashmir’s Bandipora District while foiling an infiltration bid.
An army officer said that army men of 36 RR intercepted a group of infiltrators near Bakhtor area of Gurez along LOC and the forces challenged the movement of infiltrators and they opened gunfire.
An unidentified Army officer revealed that Major KP Rane, soldiers Jamie Singh, Vikramjeet and Mandeep were killed in the gunfire.
Senior Superintendent of Police of Bandipora, Zulfikar Ahmad, reportedly said that the firing started around 1 am.
The army officer, however, said that bodies of the two militants who were also killed in the incident are yet to be recovered.
