Ghaziabad: A 28-year-old security guard died after being electrocuted while walking through a waterlogged area near a park in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, during heavy monsoon rains. The incident, which was captured on CCTV, has sparked concerns over electrical safety and civic infrastructure in the city.
The victim, identified as Bablu alias Narendra Kachhi, a resident of Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh, worked as a security guard and also cleaned cars in the locality. According to police, he had entered a park in Gyan Khand-1 with a companion at around 3:30 pm. As he stepped into the waterlogged area near an electrical transformer, he allegedly came into contact with a live electric current and collapsed. His companion escaped and alerted nearby residents.
Residents immediately informed the electricity department, following which the power supply was shut down. Bablu was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police later sent the body for post-mortem examination and informed his family. Preliminary findings indicate that electricity leaking from a transformer into the accumulated rainwater may have caused the fatal electrocution.
The CCTV footage of the incident has since surfaced on social media, showing Bablu collapsing moments after stepping into the flooded area. Authorities are examining the footage as part of the investigation. Police said no formal complaint had been filed by the family at the time of reporting, and further legal action will depend on the outcome of the inquiry.
The tragedy has once again highlighted the dangers posed by waterlogging and poorly maintained electrical infrastructure during the monsoon. It was also reported as the second rain-related fatality in Ghaziabad on the same day, prompting renewed calls for stricter safety measures and improved civic preparedness.
