Four soldiers, two porters killed after Avalanche hits Army Patrol in Siachen

Four soldiers and two civilian porters were killed in an avalanche in the Siachen Glacier on Monday.

The soldiers were part of a patrolling group of eight; they died due to extreme hypothermia after they were stuck under the snow for long hours, confirmed Indian Army.

The team of eight personnel operating in Norther Sector of Siachen Glacier were hit by an avalanche at 3:30 pm yesterday.

The Army had launched a massive search and rescue operation to bring back the trapped soldiers.

After hours of rescue operations, all soldiers were pulled out of the avalanche debris, seven were critically injured.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed grief on the demise of soldiers and porters.

“Deeply pained by the demise of soldiers and porters due to avalanche in Siachen. I salute their courage and service to the nation. My heartfelt condolences to their families,” Rajnath tweeted.
