At least four passengers were killed and more than 20 others injured after a Volvo bus collided with a trailer on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district early Tuesday morning.
The accident took place near Mile Stone 76 under the Nauhjheel police station area. According to officials, the Volvo bus was travelling from Lucknow to Delhi with around 65 passengers on board when it rammed into the trailer, causing severe damage to the front portion of the vehicle.
Police, ambulance services and rescue teams from the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the accident. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals, where several are reportedly undergoing treatment for serious injuries.
Preliminary investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. Authorities are examining whether overspeeding, driver fatigue or negligence played a role in the collision. The impact of the crash briefly disrupted traffic movement on the expressway.
Officials have begun the process of identifying the deceased and informing their families. Further investigation into the incident is in progress.
The accident has once again raised concerns over road safety and frequent fatal crashes on the Yamuna Expressway, one of the country’s busiest high-speed corridors.
