Former Punjab bureaucrat SS Channy on Thursday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He joined the party in the presence of Union minister Nitin Gadkari.
An IAS officer of 1982 batch, Channy served as the Chief Information Commissioner of Punjab.
Channy, the son-in-law of former President Giani Zail Singh, had also served as the secretary of Punjab’s Home department.
Several other individuals from the IAS background had joined the BJP in recent months.
Former IAS officer Aparajita Sarangi joined BJP on November 27, 2018.
Last month, former Karnataka Chief Secretary and retired IAS officer K Ratna Prabha joined the party in the presence of BJP State President BS Yeddyurappa.
