Thousands of farmers who have been protesting since November 26 have decided to intensify their protests. They are observing a day-long relay hunger strike at all sites of protest on Delhi’s borders with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
Everyday 11 farmers will sit on hunger strike for 24 hours, according to farmer leaders.
The Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has written a letter to the protesting farmers and invited them for next round of talks. In the letter, the government has also sought suggestions for the date of the meeting from farmers’ leaders. The letter states that the Centre is ready to discuss farmers’ apprehensions.
The previous round of talks between the government and the farmer unions have failed to break the deadlock with the farmers insisting on the withdrawal of the three farm laws.
