Expelled Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders on Sunday announced the name of their new political outfit—Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali).
The name of the new party was announced at the Golden Temple.
MP from Khadoor Sahib, Ranjit Singh Brahmpura will be the president of the new party. Brahmpura, former MP Dr. Rattan Singh Ajnala and former minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan on December 2, had said that they would float a new political outfit based on the Akali Dal’s old constitution, which was framed in 1920.”
The trio had also called upon the non-Akali parties, including the various Sikh organisations, expelled Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Sukhpal Singh Khiara, and the Bains brothers, to join hands with them.
The trio was expelled from the Shiromani Akali Dal for six years for “anti-party activities” last month, as they accused SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and his brother-in-law Bikram Singh Majithia of causing irreparable damage to SAD. They had further alleged that the people of Punjab had given power to SAD in 2007 and 2012, “but the family of Parkash Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia had grabbed the control of the party and put their family interests above the interests of the people and Punjab.
