Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday slammed Uttar Pradesh government, saying that farmers are not getting the right price of paddy in the state and the procurement of the produce is very low.
Taking to the microblogging site, Priyanka said, “Paddy farmers of Uttar Pradesh are very upset. Paddy procurement is very low. The small purchase that is being done is on a rate less than Rs 1200. This paddy was sold up to Rs 3,500 in the Congress government. Farmers are being exploited in the name of moisture. This is probably the first time that paddy is being sold cheaper than wheat.”
Priyanka further said, “In such a situation, the cost of the farmer will not come out. How will the farmer plant the next crop? Loot is going on in the electricity bill. The farmer will be forced into a debt trap.”
“The UP government should immediately intervene and provide the right price to the farmer, otherwise the Congress Party will agitate,” Priyanka added.
