Reacting to the results, Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra described ABVP’s performance as a victory of the students’ “nationalist resolve” and said it reflected support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Developed India”.
Malhotra said the result demonstrated what he described as the importance of “Student Power – Nation Power”. He also congratulated the newly elected ABVP office-bearers and said he expected them to focus on education, values and service at Delhi University.
In his statement, Malhotra also criticised rival political forces, alleging that they had sought to turn the university campus into a political battleground. He said the election result showed that students did not support what he described as politics based on “false promises”, “anarchy” and “violence”.
The results were declared on Saturday after counting votes from Friday’s DUSU elections. Reports said voter turnout was 40.46%.
