New Delhi: United States President Donald Trump is expected to visit India in early 2027, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has confirmed, as New Delhi and Washington move closer to finalising a long-awaited bilateral trade agreement. The visit is expected to further strengthen strategic ties between the two countries.
According to Ambassador Sergio Gor, preparations for Trump’s visit are already underway. The proposed trip will be Trump’s first visit to India since bilateral relations came under strain following the United States’ decision to impose steep tariffs on Indian imports.
The announcement comes at a time when India and the United States are in the final stages of negotiations on a comprehensive trade deal. US officials have expressed optimism that the agreement could be concluded within the next few weeks or months. Both countries are also looking to expand cooperation in key sectors such as energy, defence and emerging technologies.
The India-US trade negotiations have gained momentum following recent discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France. During their meeting, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening economic and strategic cooperation.
If the visit takes place as planned, it is expected to mark a significant step in resetting and strengthening India-US relations, particularly after recent trade-related tensions between the two countries.
