Health care services at numerous government hospitals, including AIIMS Safdarjung and RML in Delhi, were disrupted on Thursday as resident doctors went on an indefinite strike and withdrew all kind of services to protest against the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill.
On Monday, the Lok Sabha had passed the Bill and it will be tabled in the Rajya Sabha today.
Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan in a tweet on Wednesday night said he would table the NMC bill for consideration and passage in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
Vardhan also assured country people that the historic bill, if passed, would bring major changes in the medical education sector.
Dr Sumedh Sandanshiv, president, Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) said that the bill was anti-poor, anti-student and undemocratic.
According to the sources, resident doctors at AIIMS will hold a demonstration today and march towards Parliament in the afternoon.
