District hospital in MP uses single syringe for all patients, one dead, 25 critical

One person died while 25 others are in a critical condition after a single syringe was used for all the patients admitted at a district hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia District.

Duty officer said, “One patient died, while the condition of 25 others deteriorated due to the injection.” He, however, denied divulging any more information.

Dr. PK Sharma, Civil surgeon of the hospital reportedly said, “A single syringe was used for all the patients. The incident took place because of the negligence of the nurses as they were using normal water instead of distilled water.”

Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

According to reports, a commotion ensued in the hospital when the kin of the deceased alleged that the administration of a wrong injection led to his death. As the word spread, several other patients admitted to the medical ward fled in panic.

The police said that the body has been sent for an autopsy and investigation into the matter is underway.

However, hospital authorities dismissed the allegations and claimed that the syringe, which was used on the patients, had not expired.
