Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday appealed people in the national capital to maintain peace and brotherhood.
“Peace and harmony are central to our ethos. I appeal to my sisters and brothers of Delhi to maintain peace and brotherhood at all times,” PM Modi tweeted.
“It is important that there is calm and normalcy is restored at the earliest,” Modi added.
The Prime Minister further said, “Had an extensive review on the situation prevailing in various parts of Delhi. Police and other agencies are working on the ground to ensure peace and normalcy.”
The Opposition, however attacked the government for the loss of lives in Delhi.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi said, “the Central Government, especially the Home Minister, is responsible for the current situation in Delhi. Taking responsibility, the Home Minister should resign with immediate effect.”
“The Chief Minister & the Government of Delhi have also proved to be a complete failure in maintaining peace and are also responsible. The failure of both governments has made the country’s capital a victim of this tragedy,” Sonia added.
Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the Army should be called in as police is unable to control the situation despite all its efforts.
He said the situation has become “alarming”.
