
Delhi Govt on Wednesday approved to set up Traders’ Welfare Board to promote welfare of the trading community in the city, to streamline the grievances redressal, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said.
Gupta said, “I am happy to announce that we have been able to constitute the board within the four months of coming into power in Delhi, which was promised during the budget 2025 speech and in the election manifesto.”
The Delhi Traders’ Welfare Board was approved in the cabinet meeting. This platform will be a statutory body registered under Society Registration Act 1860.
“This political initiative shows the government’s commitment to promote the traders community in Delhi. This board aims to reduce all the grievances that traders’ community has been facing for years,” Gupta added.
Terming the traders’ community a lifeline of Delhi’s economy which largely contributes to the revenue of the city, the chief minister said that there was no such platform in Delhi before this announcement and all of them were helpless.
She said that Delhi Traders’ Welfare Board is to address the grievances of the traders, to provide social security, financial aid, and provide investment and employment opportunities. This will focus on policy reforms, and solutions to regulatory challenges faced by the traders.”
Gupta also announced to provide Rs 10 crore through Traders’ Welfare Funds to the board to implement welfare schemes, scale development, and mentorship programmes.
“Union Minister of Industries Piyush Goyal will act as the chairman of the board, member secretary will be commissioner of industries department, treasurer will be a nominated Deputy Commissioner level officer, and officials from MCD, labour department, and trader and taxes. This will be a 15-member board committee,” she added.
“In case of any natural or other disasters, the board will decide on the compensation and relief,” Gupta said.
She said that the Delhi government wants to ensure that it is there to support the traders of the city through this board which will also be having an online platform for smooth operation.
“This board will organize networking events and will participate in international traders’ events which will give benefits to all the registered traders of Delhi. We are committed to make Delhi a trusted and smooth city for traders and business activity. I would like to say that traders of the city are not alone, we are standing with them,” Gupta said.
