Delhi court clears MP Shashi Tharoor of all charges in Sunanda Pushkar death case

The Delhi High Court on Monday discharged Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on all charges in connection with the Sunanda Pushkar death case.

Special Judge Geetanjali Goel passed the order in a virtual hearing.

Shashi Tharoor’s wife Sunanda Pushkar , was found dead in a suite of a luxury hotel in Delhi on the night of January 17, 2014. She had moved into the hotel because the MP’s home was being renovated.

Shashi Tharoor was charged with abetment to suicide and cruelty by the Delhi Police.

Former union minister, Shashi Tharoor is currently on bail in the case. He faced charge-sheet by Delhi Police under Sections 498-A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Tharoor thanked the judge, and said it was “an absolute torture for last seven-and-a-half-years” and that it was a “great relief”.
