The Delhi government headed by BJP’s Rekha Gupta has received all the credentials of its social media handles and will be updated soon, people aware of the matter said.
“We had written a letter to X that all the credentials should be provided to the newly formed government and we have received them. Within the next two days, we will be updating the platform with new posts about the work of Delhi government,” sources said.
The social media handle of Delhi chief minister office on X has been silent for the past two months. The last post was done by former chief minister Atishi on January 9.
The issue came to light when the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) Delhi’s X (formerly Twitter) handle displayed the phrase “Arvind Kejriwal at work,” raising concerns among political circles.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of altering and deleting content from the official CMO Delhi X handle. The BJP termed these actions as “digital loot” and has called for an FIR to be lodged.
Following the recent assembly elections, the BJP has taken steps to reassert control over Delhi’s administrative functions. The party’s victory after nearly three decades in opposition has led to significant administrative shifts, including the appointment of Rekha Gupta as the new Chief Minister of Delhi.
The tussle over social media handles is emblematic of the broader political transition underway in Delhi. As the BJP seeks to establish its governance, issues like the control of official digital assets have become points of contention.
The AAP’s previous administration had a robust digital presence, which the current government aims to reassess and potentially realign with its policies.
The situation remains fluid, with both parties navigating the complexities of governance and digital communication. Observers are keenly watching how this dispute over social media handles will influence the political landscape and public perception in the capital.
