Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday urged the Central government to ban all flights from the UK amid fears of new strain of coronavirus.
Kejriwal in a tweet said, “New mutation of corona virus has emerged in UK, which is a super-spreader. I urge central govt to ban all flights from UK immediately.”
On December 20, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said, “As Prime Minister, it is my duty to take the difficult decisions, to do what is right to protect the people of this country.
Given the early evidence we have on this new variant of the virus, and the potential risk it poses, it is with a heavy heart that I must tell you we cannot continue with Christmas as planned.”
“We are sacrificing our chance to see loved ones this Christmas, so we have a better chance of protecting their lives so we can see them at future Christmases,” he added.
Several countries including France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Italy have announced bans of flights from the UK on Sunday and others were considering to follow similar action, in a bid to block a new strain of coronavirus.
