Delhi Assembly Election: LG orders probe into poaching allegation by AAP

Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena on Friday ordered an anti corruption branch (ACB) probe into allegations by AAP leaders that the BJP had attempted to poach its candidates.

The direction to the chief secretary came in response to a representation by Delhi BJP general secretary Vishnu Mittal to the LG’s office.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had requested the Lt. Governor of Delhi VK Saxena to direct Anti corruption Bureau or any other investigation agency for registration of an FIR and detailed investigation to be done regarding offer of bribery to the sitting seven MLAs of AAP. 

“The allegations levelled by Arvind Kejriwal & Sanjay Singh are very serious in nature and calls for serious and immediate investigation into his allegations as he has not furnished any proof or evidence to substantiate the fact that —who all received phone calls and from which number and details of the said individual who contacted them. It is to be noted that assembly elections have just concluded two days back and by spreading such false and misleading information, he is trying to create panic and situation of unrest in Delhi,” BJP General Secratary Vishnu Mittal stated in the letter.

He said that Arvind Kejriwal & Sanjay Singh, Member of the Parliament —Rajya Sabha & Senior member of the Aam Aadmi Party have made serious allegations of corruption vide his tweet posted on X on Feb 6, 2025 that seven MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have received phone call from the BJP leadership and they have been offered Rs 15 crore each for quitting AAP and joining BJP. 

“It is requested that Arvind Kejriwal & Sanjay Singh be summoned and detailed enquiry be done with regard to the details of the person who contacted MLAs and the mode and medium of contact et al.needs to be investigated to unearth the truth,” the letter read.  

Kejriwal on Thursday accused the BJP of attempting to poach 16 party candidates ahead of the Delhi Assembly poll results on February 8.

Similar allegations were also levelled by AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh and other leaders.
