‘Crimes against women increasing, we have to take responsibility for our own safety’: Priyanka Gandhi

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday said that it is the most shameful and cowardly act to level allegations against the victim and added that women have to take the responsibility for their own safety.

Taking to the microblogging site, Priyanka said, “Crimes against women are increasing. But, instead of listening to the truth and voice of the oppressed women, it is the most shameful and cowardly act to discredit them. But the women of the country will no longer remain silent.”

“If one sister is convicted, then millions of sisters will raise their voice and stand with them. We are taking our responsibility ourselves. Now only women will have to take the responsibility of women safety,” Priyanka added.

Priyanka’s comment comes after a BJP leader from Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki, claimed that the 19-year-old woman from Hathras, who succumbed to her injuries at a Delhi hospital was having an affair with the accused and said that the victim was killed by her family because they discovered the ‘affair’.
