Communist Party of India (CPI) leader and former MP Gurudas Dasgupta passed away on Thursday following a prolonged illness. He was 83.
Dasgupta was suffering from lung cancer for past many months, sources said.
He is survived by his wife and daughter.
Dasgupta was a veteran trade union leader of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC). In 1985, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha.
Dasgupta was also a member of the Lok Sabha from Panskura and in 2004 was again elected to the lower House of Parliament in 2009 from Ghatal seat.
