COVID-19 cases in India rise to 2,16,919, Death toll crosses 6,000-mark

India’s COVID-19 cases has risen to 2,16,919 with 6,075 fatalities. There are 1,06,737 active cases while 1,04,106 have been cured/discharged, the Health Ministry said on Thursday.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state in the country. The total number of COVID-19 cases has jumped to 74,860 with 2,587 fatalities, according to Health Ministry.

Tamil Nadu continues to be the second-worst hit state with 25,872 Covid-19 cases and 208 deaths, followed by Delhi with 23,645 cases and 606 deaths, Gujarat – 18,100 cases and 1,122 fatalities.

A total of 42,42,718 samples have been tested as on June 4, of which 1,39,485 samples have been tested in last 24 hours, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.

Around 6.5 million people have so far been affected by the deadly pandemic across the globe with over 3,80,000 deaths. The US continues to be the worst-affected country with over 1.9 million cases and more than 1 lakh fatalities.
