Counter Intelligence Wing Jalandhar has busted an inter-state drug racket of Heroin smuggling by arresting two smugglers having links with the kingpin Nigerian national national Victor lodged in jail at Kapurthala in Punjab.
The cops recovered one kilogram Heroin from Sultanpur Lodhi area of Kapurthala district and arrested smugglers identified as Gurvinder Singh of village Noorpur Hakima in Moga district and his associate Ranjit Singh of Mehatpur in Jalandhar district.
AIG Counter Intelligence, Jalandhar, Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that they received a tip off that Gurvinder Singh, who has links with Delhi-based smugglers of Nigerian nationality, was smuggling a big Heroin consignment in a Tata Sumo bearing registration number (PB29-P8895) along with his associate Ranjit Singh.
“Preliminary investigation of the arrested accused revealed that both were involved in drug smuggling from the past few years. They are already facing cases and were lodged in jails for these cases”, said the AIG.
In jails, they had met these Del;hi-based smugglers before contacting Victor, who is presently lodged in Kapurthala Jail in drug case via mobile phone and started trafficking Heroin from Delhi to Punjab, at his behest.
Khakh said a separate case has been registered against Victor under The Prisons Act, 1894 as two mobile phones and one SIM card were also recovered from him.
A case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 has been registered against the arrested smugglers at Sultanpur Lodhi Police station.
Gurwinder had come out of jail on bail in April this year, wherease his associate Ranjit got bail in December 2018.
The AIG added that that kingpin Victor would also be arrested in this NDPS Act case, after completing the legal formalities and would be taken on police remand.
The entire information related to busting of this smugglers network in the national capital has been shared with the Special Task Force (STF) set up by the Punjab government to deal with the drugs menace in the state.
