The Congress Working Committee (CWC) will meet on Saturday to choose a new party president after Rahul Gandhi resigned from the post in May, owing moral responsibility for his party’s poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections.
Senior party leader KC Venugopal told reporters on Friday that the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chiefs, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leaders, party MPs and the All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretaries will take part in the meeting and hold consultations for selecting new chief.
The Congress suffered electoral defeat in elections, winning just 52 seats in the 543 member Lok sabha, eight more than it did in 2014.
