The Congress on Wednesday decided to boycott the local body election in Jammu and Kashmir to protest against the detention of leaders post abrogation of Article 370.
Addressing a press conference, Jammu and Kashmir Congress Chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir said, “due to indifferent attitude of the state administration and continued detention of several leaders in the valley, we have no other choice left but to boycott the elections.”
“We will not participate in the BDC election. where are the political parties? Who is contesting these elections…? We want to contest polls, but our leaders are still under detention. The EC should have consulted political parties before announcing block development council (BDC) polls,” GA Mir said.
Block development council polls will be held in Jammu and Kashmir on October 24.
