Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP from Bihar’s Kishanganj constituency Maulana Asrar-ul-Haque Qasmi, passed away on Friday.
Qasmi suffered a heart attack in the early hours of the day. He was 76.
He is survived by two sons and three daughters.
According to district officials, he died at the Kishanganj Circuit House.
Qasmi was a noted Islamic scholar and a popular face of the party in the state, He was elected to the constituency in the 2009 general elections. He had defeated BJP’s Dilip Kumar Jaiswal with more than 1 lakh votes in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
Qasmi was a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board as well as the founder member of the All India Milli Council.
