Ayodhya: Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust General Secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra have stepped down from their positions amid the ongoing controversy surrounding alleged irregularities in donations received at the Ayodhya Ram Temple. According to reports, both leaders resigned on “moral grounds” as the probe into the alleged misappropriation of donations continues.
The resignations come days after an FIR was registered in connection with the alleged embezzlement of temple donations and valuables. Eight individuals named in the case have already been arrested, and the investigation is being carried out on the basis of a preliminary report submitted by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
However, confusion persisted over the resignations, with the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) later stating that it had no official information regarding Champat Rai and Anil Mishra stepping down from the Trust. The absence of an official statement from the Trust has added to the uncertainty surrounding the development.
Sources said the resignations were submitted after the donation controversy intensified and political pressure mounted over the alleged irregularities. While no direct allegations have been levelled against either Champat Rai or Anil Mishra, opposition parties have demanded a wider and more transparent investigation into the matter.
The alleged donation irregularities at the Ram Temple have triggered a major political debate, with several opposition leaders questioning the functioning of the Trust. The Uttar Pradesh government, meanwhile, has reiterated its commitment to a fair probe and said strict action will be taken against those found guilty.
