Celebrations were reported in several parts of Kashmir after the announcement of a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, with many residents describing the development as a moment of relief and, in some areas, a symbolic victory for Iran.
Gatherings were reported from a number of places, particularly Shia-majority localities. In Srinagar, people assembled in Saidakadal and Zadibal, while similar scenes were witnessed in parts of Budgam, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Pulwama and Bandipora districts.
Participants were seen waving Iranian flags, bursting firecrackers and distributing traditional kehwa and sweets. Residents said the ceasefire brought relief after weeks of tension in West Asia.
In Srinagar’s Saidakadal locality, men, women and children gathered in large numbers, raising slogans and expressing solidarity with Iran. Similar gatherings were also reported from Magam and Pattan in Baramulla and from several areas of Bandipora.
The celebrations come days after protests were held in different parts of Kashmir following the outbreak of the Iran conflict. Demonstrators had expressed support for Iran and criticised the role of the United States and Israel.
In the aftermath of the conflict, some communities also organised fundraising drives to support people affected by the situation in Iran. These efforts were largely led by local groups and community members, with residents contributing money and valuables.
Observers often attribute such public sentiment to Kashmir’s historical and cultural links with Iran, sometimes referred to as Iran-e-Sagheer (Little Iran).
Officials said the celebrations remained largely peaceful but added that the situation continues to be monitored to ensure law and order is maintained across the Valley.
