CBI takes over Hathras case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially taken over probe in the Hathras Case.

The central government issued a notification on Saturday in this regard. As per reports CBI has registered a case in this incident and will soon dispatch teams to the crime scene.

The Uttar Pradesh government on October 6 filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court over the Hathras incident, saying the court must direct a CBI investigation into the matter.

In its affidavit, the state government also requested the Top Court to monitor the CBI investigation into the case, alleging that “vested interests are attempting to ascribe motive to derail a fair probe”.

The Yogi-Adityanath government also said that a CBI probe in the case will ensure no vested interests will be able to create a fake, false narrative with oblique motives.

The 19-year-old woman died after she was allegedly gang-raped by four men of her village. All four accused have been arrested. The incident prompted outrage, protests and calls for justice.
