Bring back sons who have joined militancy, Army officer to Kashmiri mothers

General Officer Commanding of the Army’s 15 Corps in Srinagar has issued an appeal to Kashmiri mothers to bring back their sons who have joined militancy.

“Today I make a fervent appeal to all Kashmiri mothers to bring back sons who have taken up arms,” said GoC 15 Corps LT Gen KJS Dhillon. “I guarantee safe entry of local militants into the mainstream”.

Army commander was speaking at the passing-out-cum attestation parade at JAKLI Regimental Centre today.

This is a rare appeal from a top Army commander and assumes significance in view of the muscular policy adopted by the centre towards Kashmir over the past five years. These years have also witnessed an increasing number of Kashmiri youth joining militancy. The frequent killings of the militants at the hands of the security forces have hardly been a dampener.

Around 152 Kashmiri youth  passed out and joined the light infantry. The Indian Army is also holding a Territorial recruitment rally in four districts of Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and Udhampur from March 5 to 13. Reports say more than 3000 aspirants have so far taken part in the recruitment rally.
