The Bombay high court on Monday refused to grant interim bail to Republic TV editor-in-chief Arab Goswami in a 2018 abetment to suicide case.
The High Court had directed him to approach a lower court to seek bail.
On Saturday, the court had reserved its order on Goswami’s plea.
Former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis earlier requested High Court to take suo moto cognizance of the way MVA State Government in Maharashtra has treated Arnab Goswami during the entire process of arrest to handling under custody, as alleged by him.
“While deciding on the matter today, it is our humble request to the Hon High Court to take suo moto cognizance of the way MVA State Government in Maharashtra has treated Arnab Goswami during the entire process of arrest to handling under custody, as alleged by him,” Fadnavis earlier tweeted.
Arnab Goswami was arrested on November 4, in connection with an old abetment to suicide case of a 53-year-old interior designer and his mother in 2018.
After Goswami’s arrest from his residence in Mumbai, he was taken to Alibaug, where the Chief Judicial Magistrate remanded him in judicial custody till November 18.
Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari today spoke to state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and conveyed to him his concern over the security and health of Republic TV’s Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami.
The Governor also asked the Home Minister to allow Arnab Goswami’s family to meet and speak to him.
“Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari spoke to Maharashtra’s Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and conveyed to him his concern over the security and health of news anchor and editor-in-chief of Republic Media Network Arnab Goswami,” official twitter account of Governor stated.
“The Governor also asked the Home Minister to allow the family of Arnab Goswami to see him and to speak to him. The Governor had earlier conveyed his concern over the manner of arrest of Arnab Goswami to the State Home Minister,” it said.
