A boat carrying 40 persons capsized in Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday. 23 persons are missing while 17 persons were rescued, rescue operations are still underway.
According to sources, boat started from Devipatnam and was en route to Vadapalli, when it reached near Manturu, heavy rain and wind occurred due to which the boat lost balance and slid on one side.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu inquired about the incident and instructed officials for search operations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Anguished by the capsizing of a boat in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district. Condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the safety of those missing.”
Congress president Rahul Gandhi requested party workers to provide possible assistance to the families of the victims. “I’m deeply anguished by the tragic loss of innocent lives in the boat capsize on the Godavari River. My thoughts are with the families of those killed or still missing in this tragedy. I request congress workers to provide the families of the victims with all possible assistance” he tweeted.
Teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) from Kakinada and Visakhapatnam have been deployed for rescue operations.
