New Delhi: In a major relief for Aadhaar holders, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that updating an email address in Aadhaar through the official mobile application will be free from July 1, 2026. The authority has waived the existing ₹75 fee for a period of six months.
According to UIDAI, the fee exemption will remain in force from July 1 to December 31, 2026. At present, Aadhaar users are required to pay ₹75 to update their email address through the Aadhaar mobile app. The waiver is aimed at encouraging more users to link and update their email IDs in Aadhaar records.
The free facility will be available exclusively through the official Aadhaar mobile application. Users updating their email address through other modes or centres may continue to be charged as per existing rules. UIDAI has urged residents to keep their email IDs updated to receive timely notifications and alerts related to Aadhaar transactions and services.
The authority recently launched the revamped Aadhaar mobile application to make various Aadhaar-related services more secure and convenient. The app offers services such as mobile number updates, address changes, biometric lock and unlock, downloading e-Aadhaar and tracking update requests.
Officials said the decision to waive the charges is temporary and will be reviewed after the six-month period ends. Users are advised to use only the official UIDAI application for Aadhaar-related services to avoid fraud and unauthorised access.
