New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dismissed speculation surrounding Rohit Sharma’s retirement from One Day Internationals (ODIs), clarifying that there has been no discussion about the Indian captain playing his final ODI at Lord’s.
Responding to media reports, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said, “There are a lot of speculations going on in the media about Rohit Sharma’s future. I want to firmly assert that there has been no such discussion that Rohit will be playing his last match at Lord’s on Sunday.”
Saikia further reiterated that Rohit remains an integral part of India’s ODI setup.
“Rohit is a regular member of the Indian ODI team and he will continue to represent the country as long as he is in the scheme of things. In other words, Lord’s ODI won’t be his last match,” he said.
The clarification comes after widespread speculation suggested that the upcoming ODI at Lord’s could mark the end of Rohit’s ODI career. However, the BCCI has now officially denied those reports, putting an end to the retirement rumours for the time being.
Rohit Sharma, one of India’s most successful white-ball captains, continues to be a key figure in the national team and is expected to remain available for ODI selection as long as he meets the team’s requirements.
